| LOVE AT FIRST BITE |
UNIQUE MOTORCARS "SNAKES" AWAY WITH OUR KC FOR THE BEST COBRA* REPLICA Success can be achieved in different ways: Sometimes it's virtually thrust upon you and sometimes you fall into it, but most of the time you have to work for it. Such is the case for Unique Motorcars (UMC) and it's Cobra* Replica. if you have been watching closely over the past year or so, you've probably noticed that an amazing change has occurred at UMC in Gadsden, Alabama. Although UMC has always done well, it has suddenly blossomed forth into a real front runner in the industry. You can see why they've enjoyed this success if you take a close look at the company, it's cars, and the philosophy behind them. |
|
UMC is one of the oldest Cobra* Replica
manufacturers operating today, and its recognition is hard earned. The
business, which is run by the Weaver family, was started in Phoenix,
Arizona, and was later relocated back to it's native Alabama home. You
can usually find brothers Maurice , Alan and Rick on the shop floor,
while Mom answers the phone and Dad handles just about anything else.
As for the cars, the frames are fabricated on
location into a ladder design from either rectangular or square stock.
The front suspension setup is custom with a Jaguar IRS hung under the
tail. By the way, these Jag pieces come through a secret pipeline that
the Weavers have established in England, which makes the UMC the only
shop to furnish Jag rears as standard kit item.
What goes between the frame rails in the engine
compartment is the buyers option: You can have anything you want as
long as it's Ford, because that's the engine of preference at the
Unique shops. Most builders choose the four speed tranny.
UMC recently unveiled a new in-house designed body
that was redesigned for strength and rigidity and still offers easy
assembly. The door, hood, trunk and other assorted seams are straight
and true, and the glass is smooth. The leather interiors are finished
nicely in the original style, with the exception of up-to-date
competition restraints. UMC welcomes inspection of it's shops (230 E.
Broad St., Gadsden, AL 35903) and it's products, and we urge you to
take them up on this offer.
If there's one category that's sure to ruffle some
feathers, it's this one. Several venerable and recognized companies did
very well in the judging, but this year UMC simply had the best product
in our opinions. One thing you can believe: This was the hardest
category to judge, bar none, because there are so many quality Cobras*
Replicas on the market. KC |
